A Different Kind of Winter: Ogden Valley Weather, Events & Featured Land
A Winter Like No Other: Driest in Recent Memory & What’s Ahead
If you’ve noticed way less snow than usual this winter, you’re not imagining it. Utah’s snowpack, which supplies about 95% of the state’s water, remains well below normal this season — and drought conditions now cover roughly 94% of the state, compared with only about 20% this time last year.
This dry pattern follows a record-warm 2025 and a trend toward more precipitation falling as rain instead of snow, which reduces snowpack accumulation even further.
What does this mean for the coming months?
Water managers are concerned that without more snow, we could face a dry summer, since mountain snowmelt is critical for summer streamflow and reservoir levels.
Reservoirs are currently holding above average for this time of year — but that’s only a buffer, not a fix.
Continued drought could impact irrigation, outdoor recreation, wildfire risk, and local water use planning this summer.
So enjoy what we get now — every flake matters.
Ogden Valley Weather Fun: Pineview Freezing & Ice Skating
Closer to home, Pineview Reservoir has started to develop ice edges in shallower sections — and locals are already out ice skating where it’s safe. If temperatures continue to stay cold, we may even get back to ice fishing conditions later this winter! (As always, check ice safety before heading out.)

Sports Spotlight: Utah Mammoth Hockey
The Utah Mammoth 2025–26 Season Standings & Stats are looking strong. Mid-season, the Mammoth sit solidly in the playoff picture in the NHL’s Central Division (28-22-4 record) with key contributors like Clayton Keller and Dylan Guenther leading the offense.
Though they recently suffered a dramatic comeback loss to the Carolina Hurricanes, the team has shown resilience and remains competitive as the playoff stretch approaches.
More reason to stay hyped: the Mammoth will be hosting the 2027 Discover NHL Winter Classic at Rice-Eccles Stadium — a HUGE event for the franchise and Utah hockey fans.
